FIXPOINT Technical Services

About

I started Fixpoint to do the work I love, for clients who need it done right.

That means partnering with IT departments and AV integrators, stepping in as your senior technician, project lead, or trainer, on-site for exactly as long as needed.

Background

I have over twenty years in the IT and AV industry, and have worked in just about every seat: installer, repair technician, programmer, manager, trainer, and salesperson. I am professional and very comfortable working with senior executives, but also not afraid to get my hands dirty, literally. I have always loved the joy of assembling something out of a collection of parts to create a product clients love to use.

I spent the first decade of my career as a technology consultant for Accenture, working on large, complicated software development projects. We commanded relatively high rates, and once I asked my boss why clients paid those rates instead of just hiring a cheaper programming shop. His answer — “because they know it will actually get done” — stuck with me.

As the Director of the Collaboration and AV systems practice at my last company, I grew to understand this. Like most companies our size we had plenty of occasion to engage subcontractors for various reasons: teams busy on other jobs, lack of specific skills, remote jobsites. We tried to build relationships, and some were really good. Others, however, produced horror stories (all true):

Leaving cable shrapnel all over the conference room.
Being told to remove all the old equipment, and removing about half of it.
Verbally insulting one of the office admin workers.
Showing up to the site wearing shorts and sandals.

All of those experiences created a cost: at best, a return trip to fix the problem, and at worst a damaged client relationship.

With Fixpoint, I'm able to do the work I love while also giving my clients peace of mind that things are going to go well. I work nationwide, on site, one project at a time.

You’re hiring a specialist, not dispatching a technician.

Plenty of firms will send a field tech with a ladder and a work order. That is a different service at a different price. What I sell is judgment: knowing which of six plausible causes is the real one, knowing when the manufacturer is wrong, and knowing what to tell your customer while it is still being fixed. You are engaging one senior person, and that person is the one who shows up.
